Qatar Airways announced the appointment of new Master of Wine, who will be instrumental in ensuring the airline's commitment to providing the finest customer experience for all passengers.
Anne Krebiehl is one of only 421 individuals globally to hold the esteemed Master of Wine title. She brings extensive industry knowledge and experience to the World’s Best Airline, as recognized by Skytrax in 2024. As an award-winning writer, editor, and respected wine judge, Ms. Krebiehl will curate the airline’s wine offerings and sourcing strategy, ensuring that First and Business Class passengers enjoy exclusive wines while keeping Qatar Airways at the forefront of industry trends.
Selecting wine for an airline is challenging due to the effects of lower humidity and cabin pressure on passengers' taste perceptions. Ms. Krebiehl will consider these factors when designing Qatar Airways’ wine menus. She will also collaborate with wineries to create special blends for Economy Class that taste great at 40,000 feet and utilize innovative sustainable packaging.
The role of Master of Wine includes extensive wine tasting, with an annual blind tasting of over 1,000 bottles from around the globe. Qatar Airways focuses on choosing wines based on flavor rather than just labels, critic scores, or prices, leading to a diverse and unique selection onboard.
In recent years, Qatar Airways has consistently been ranked among the top three airlines worldwide for outstanding wine selections, receiving accolades from respected awards like Business Traveller’s “Cellars in the Sky” and Global Traveller’s “Wines on the Wing.”
Qatar Airways is dedicated to providing a luxurious and memorable dining experience for its customers, and the Master of Wine will work closely with the airline to achieve this goal.
Xia Cai, Senior Vice President of Product Development at Qatar Airways, expressed enthusiasm about the appointment of Anne Krebiehl as Master of Wine. "Qatar Airways is delighted to welcome Ms. Krebiehl to our esteemed team. Her extensive expertise in the industry is vital for the success of our wine program, which is integral to our dedication to delivering an exceptional, world-class travel experience on every flight," she said
"Ms. Krebiehl is a leading figure in the wine sector and will contribute her innovative insights and sourcing skills to our airline, ensuring we maintain our status as the best in the world."
Anne Krebiehl, the newly appointed Master of Wine at Qatar Airways, remarked, "I am excited to join Qatar Airways, recognized as the World’s Best Airline, in the role of Master of Wine. I firmly believe that exceptional wine and cuisine enhance the enjoyment of life, even at 40,000 feet, and Qatar Airways’ wine program exemplifies its commitment to customer satisfaction."
